Five days and a bit, almost 1050 kilometers of roads and a myriad of wind and sun, of forests, flower meadows, corn and rapeseed fields, city boulevards and village streets, busy highways and deserted countryside roads and last but not least intense after cycling meetings with people along the way... That asked for a break - a little step back. Rest day #1 !
I am staying in downtown Prague for two nights with Petra, once one of my housemates in Zwijnaardsesteenweg in Ghent. Just good to meet again! While Petra was off to work, I spent the whole morning idling in the appartment.
The idea of immersing myself into big city life wasn’t very appealing and even scared me. I like to live in a city - Ghent is my home and very likely it will always be. Though, somehow city fuzz is very unfulfilling for me, there is too much of everything but nothing I am really looking for. Except ice cream! Later I met Petra again on Carol’s bridge and we went for a little walk.
Have I been in Prague now? When have you actually been in a place anyway? No matter how small or big it is... When you’ve checked out the sights and visited the places supposed to be worth seeing for whatever reason? When you’ve pretentiously wandered off the beaten track? When you've crossed it all the way through? When you’ve met friends or when you’ve come as a stranger and left as a friend? When people have let you into their homes and their lifes - even it is just for a moment? After all, aren’t we just wondering how it would be like to call a place home?
There is no answer or we all have our own. I love the road, nothing but the road! No choices to be made, no directions to be chosen - I just follow the blue line. I might seem stuck to that line but I never feel so free. Tomorrow it’s on again. Next stop: Bohemian paradise!
